Most of the films I made to get here were scrapped. That is the part of the story I want to tell first.
When the race began to make the best AI film, I went the other way. I went down into the tools. The models, the platforms, the engines, the small ungenerous APIs. I wanted to know the grain of each one. Where it broke. What it refused. What it could do if you spoke to it correctly.
What I kept running into was not a model problem. It was a clutter problem. A script lived in one app. The storyboard lived in another. Shot prompts sat in a chat window that closed when the browser crashed. Image references piled up in a folder no one named properly. No one place held a production.
The films were the tuition. The tool was what I was actually building.
I gave the artifact a name. I call it a Take. Every iteration of a shot inside it is a take. To shoot the next one is to nextake. When a production locks, that is the Final Take.
This is how Nextake came to exist. It is the production bible for an AI-native film — script, cast, storyboard, shot prompts, image prompts, animatic, score, grading deck. One web page. One source of truth. It now generates prompts and images inline, so the page is not a record of the work — the page is where the work happens.
